Brändle Oil Mill in Empfingen for over 150 years

The Brändles have been running the family oil mill in Empfingen
for 5 generations. In the old days, local farmers brought oil
seeds such as poppy, mustard, rapeseed, and linseed in batches
of 50 to 100 pounds in weight for pressing. This traditional method of working lasted until about 1950, by which time oil seed faming was no longer profitable for the farmers. The 195 oil mills in Baden-Württemberg closed down one after the other, leaving just three still operating. One of these is the Brändle Oil Mill which then switched to trading cereals for oil until the mid-1970's. The mill searched for new areas of activity and first began filling two kinds of edible oils. The company was able to win major customers amongst grocery wholesalers and retailers as well as in the delicatessen trade and the food processing industry. In 1974, Brändle was the first to import quality safflower oil from California and also pioneered the 1982 market introduction of German rapeseed oil. Expanding the range of products and specialising in high-quality oils soon meant that the old premises were too small. A decisive turning point was the 1990 relocation of the plant to the Robert Bosch Strasse in the industrial park adjoining the autobahn. The number of machines has been growing constantly and the mill now processes and fills 30 different kinds of oil in all sizes of bottles, canisters and barrels. The newly equipped oil mill and silo facilities are used solely for cold pressing sunflower seed and rapeseed. Other oils are obtained from specialised oil mills worldwide. |
During the 1995 extension programme, as well as building
production and storage areas the company also created a sales
and presentation area to better display the range of available
oils. Today the company delivers its products throughout the
whole of Germany and also into the rest of Europe. Ongoing
investment in new filling, packaging and tank systems, means
Brändle is best equipped for the future. We also have the skill
to manufacture our own brands and offer our many years of
experience. At Brändle, the quality and food safety aspects of the oils have top priority. We follow guidelines and directives such as "International Food Standard" und "HACCP" certification and guarantee perfect traceability from the seed to the bottle. We recognised the trend towards using high quality edible oils for a healthy diet at an early stage and Brändle is now a major manufacturer and supplier of high quality oils in Germany. |
